Chewing Gum May Promote Better Oral Health

April 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Chewing gum may have many benefits.  The short term benefits of fresh breath after a meal are important,  but greater benefits may be achieved in the long term.

The American Dental Association has stated that chewing sugarless gum after a meal,  may help promote better oral health.  The act of chewing gum can have a cleansing effect on the teeth.  The gum and saliva in the mouth can help remove plague and force bacteria off of the teeth.  It is important that sugarless gum be used.  If gum that contains sugar is used,  oral health may be negatively affected.
